JioPhone Users Can Now Book Railway Tickets Through JioRail Mobile App

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The JioRail app is exclusive to JioPhone and JioPhone 2 users in India
  • It allows users to book train tickets, check PNR status, view ticket history and much more
Reliance Jio has now introduced a dedicated JioRail app for JioPhone and JioPhone 2 feature phone users in India. The JioRail app is powered by IRCTC and it allows users to book and cancel tickets by using debit cards, credit cards and e-wallets, check PNR status, train information, timings, routes, seat availability and several other services. “In its continued effort towards building a Digitally empowered India, Jio is redefining convenience for its users yet again,” said the Mukesh Ambani-owned telco in a press statement. The JioRail app can be downloaded for free via Jio App Store. This move from Jio comes after the introduction of two long-validity plans for JioPhone users. As of now, it’s unknown whether the JioRail app is available for other KaiOS devices like the Nokia 8110 4G.
JioRail App for JioPhone Launched
As noted, Jio announced the JioRail app in collaboration with IRCTC and it allows users to make Tatkal booking for any last minute travel plans. Firstly, to book the tickets, users will have to sign in with their IRCTC account. If a user does not have an IRCTC account, the app allows them to create one without hassle. Furthermore, with JioRail app, users can check the PNR status for the tickets booked and it will soon provide IRCTC’s newly launched services like PNR status change alerts, locate train and food ordering in future.
Back at the launch of JioPhone 2, the company stated that it has over 25 million JioPhone users, which is an incredible number considering the original JioPhone was released back in June 2017. At the moment, we don’t have the exact JioPhone subscriber base, but it’s expected to be over 40 million. Jio’s aim was to achieve 100 million JioPhone users which could happen in the next couple of years.
Launching the JioRail app for JioPhone and JioPhone 2, the company stated “Train ticket booking has been made quite simple on the JioRail app. With this unique service, India’s consumers can avoid standing in long queues or pay agent fees to book tickets and instead enjoy an enhanced digital life experience.”
As you might be aware of by now, the JioPhone and JioPhone 2 runs KaiOS which is the reason why developers are able to launch new applications. JioPhone already has support for popular apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, Google Maps and so on.
JioPhone Users Got Two Long-Validity Plans
Last week, Reliance Jio announced two long-validity plans for JioPhone users. The plans in question are Rs 594 and Rs 297 which offer benefits for 168 days and 84 days respectively. The Rs 594 plan offers unlimited calling, 0.5GB or 500MB of 4G data per day and 300 SMSes every month for a period of 168 days, while the Rs 297 plan ships with similar benefits for 84 days from the date of recharge. If you closely observe, Jio is providing the Rs 99 JioPhone plan for six months and three months respectively, and there’s nothing special with the newly launched long-validity plans for JioPhone users.
