Android Q Said to Bring Revamped Gesture Navigation

Google is soon going to bring the next version of the Android 9 Pie which most likely will be called Android Q/ Android 10. Although there’s no confirmation on the name of the next generation Android, slowly and steadily the key features of the version are leaking. Past rumours revealed that Android Q might come with a system-wide dark mode. Now a new report coming from folks at XDA Developers reveals new information about the upcoming Android version. The report suggests that with Android Q Google will seemingly remove the back gesture button which is currently available with Android 9 Pie. The report reveals that this information comes from a pre-release build of Android Q that the publication managed to get hold of. Reportedly, with the Android Q, Google is planning to bring two major transformations in a way consumers use an Android device.

Back Button Option May Be Removed With Android Q

The report reveals that Android Q will replace the dedicated back option with a gesture. While the second feature that Google is seemingly working on is to improve the fluidity of the “last app transition animation”. The report further reveals that with the Android Q software users will no longer able to disable the gestures to go back to the vertical card recent apps overview. Besides removing the back button, the report also reveals that Google may be working towards bringing some of the iPhone-like last app gesture animations to the Android phones. XDA Developers managed to install an early build of Android Q on a Pixel 3.

Google is seemingly working to improve the overall user experience with Android Q. Rumours and leaks about the key features that Google’s next-generation Android version will supposedly bring. According to past rumours and leaks, Google working on bringing several gesture oriented features to bring with Android Q, like — Tap pill: Go home, Long press pill: Launch Google Assistant, Short swipe up of the pill: Open horizontal recent apps overview, Long swipe up of the pill: App drawer, Slide pill to the right: Scroll through recent apps, Quick slide pill to the right: Open the last app, and Slide pill to the left: Go back.

Expected Features of Android Q

Rumours also reveal that Android Q will come with features like foldable phone support, multi-resume feature, warning against old apps, enhanced treble support, system-wide dark mode, better smart locks, more permissions to keep user data private and safe, seamless access to notifications, among other things.

Google announce the Android 9 Pie at Google’s I/O event, and the same is expected this year as well. This means Android Q will be announced at Google’s I/O event this year. The first lot of smartphones to get Android Q software will be the Pixels of 2019, which are most likely expected to be Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. Google is also very soon expected to launch Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite.
