HIGHLIGHTS
- Watcho app can be downloaded from Google Play Store for free
- Right now, the app is riddled with a lot of bugs which deteriorate the user experience
If there’s one area in which both Dish TV and D2h are lagging behind, it has to be in the mobile application department. While both the Direct-to-the-Home (DTH) operators are providing self-care mobile apps to their customers, they fell short of the competition in providing a reliable content app to the users. However, that’s changing finally as a new mobile app named ‘Watcho‘ has been launched for both Dish TV and D2h users. Having said that, Watcho is an application developed by Watcho Entertainment, but it seems like Dish TV is behind the entire project. Watcho app is also available for non Dish TV and D2h subscribers, but they have to subscribe to the premium service, while the DTH subscribers can enjoy it at free of cost.
Dish TV Finally Steps into the Mobile Content Game
Back in November 2018, Dish TV stated that it would launch a mobile app with Live TV service in 2019 taking on the likes of Tata Sky and Airtel Digital TV. And finally, the app is here and it’s named ‘Watcho.’ For the unaware, Tata Sky already providing Live TV service to its subscribers via the ‘Tata Sky’ mobile app, whereas Airtel Digital TV users can make use of the Airtel TV mobile app that’s available for both Android and iOS users.
Talking about Watcho, it’s available for Android users at the moment and every subscriber can install it for free. After installing, the mobile app will ask you to either login using your Dish TV/D2h registered mobile number (RMN), or you can register with a normal number. If you log in with a Dish TV or D2h RMN, then the app will also you to watch the premium content for free. It’s worth noting that the Dish TV, D2h subscribers will be able to view the content free for the first six months, the post which they’ll have to subscribe to the premium content.
For non Dish TV, D2h users, the app will display a complimentary subscription package pre-activated, but when we tried to play the content, it asked us to purchase the pack that costs Rs 150 for six months. The Promo-Pack is priced at Rs 180 and there’s a 20% discount offer going on which brings the final price to Rs 150. The Promo-Pack offers a free subscription for six months. The free subscription offer for non-Dish TV and D2h subscribers will be available for the next few days, so hurry up and register.
Dish TV Watcho App: What it Offers?
All these days, the Watcho app was available under the beta programme for Android users, but now, it’s out of beta and the stable version has been uploaded to the Google Play Store. However, the app is riddled with a lot of issues at the moment as it constantly displayed ‘playback error’ on a OnePlus 6T even after logging in with a Dish TV RMN. Hopefully, these bugs will be fixed in the coming updates.
As for the content availability, Watcho app has over 100 Live TV channels across different languages along with various other originals and short films. The app currently offers more than 1000 hours of viewing, and there are features such as On-Demand Live and Catch TV.
That being said, Watcho app is nowhere close to what Tata Sky and Airtel TV apps offer, but it’s a step in the right direction from Dish TV.
