Several Xiaomi phones got updated to the latest MIUI 10 update recently. Released back at the end of 2017, Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite are now joining the bandwagon. Both the Y series Redmi phones are reportedly getting the MIUI 10 MIUI 10 Global Stable update, some Redmi Y1, and Redmi Y2 Lite users in India have reported. Users of the Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite reveal that the MIUI 10 update is rolling out as an over-the-air (OTA) package. Although the coming of the MIUI 10 to the years-old Redmi phones is a piece of good news for the users, sadly the update doesn’t upgrade the phone to Android Oreo. Both the Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite continue to run Android 7.1 Nougat.
Redmi Y1, Y1 Lite Get MIUI 10 in India
Some of the users of these Redmi Y series phones have reported on the Mi Community forums that the MIUI 10 Global Stable update for the Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite smartphones measures around 507MB in size. This means the users of these Redmi phones will need to connect to a Wi-Fi network before downloading and installing the update.
The Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite users have also posted the screenshot of the changelog of the new update. The changelog reveals that the MIUI 10 Global Stable update will bring an updated Android security patch to both the Redmi phones – Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite. The changelog further reveals that the MIUI 10 Global Stable update fixes the issue of switching between the front and rear cameras during video calls. It also reveals that the new MIUI update acknowledges issues related to notifications and fixes all of them.
The changelog also reveals that the MIUI 10 update fixes issues related to the lock screen, status bar, and notification bar. It also acknowledges and fixes issues related to the default recorder app. Having said that, MIUI 10 Global Stable update doesn’t bring Android Oreo update to the Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite. This means that both the Redmi Y series phones still run on Android 7.1 Nougat.
If you’re a Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite user you can check for the availability of the MIUI 10 Global Stable update by heading to the Settings menu > then go to About phone option> and lastly to System update option. Reports suggest that Xiaomi is working on the next version of the MIUI aka MIUI 11 to release very soon.
