WhatsApp Dark Mode Coming Soon, Leaked Concept Images Show How It Works

HIGHLIGHTS
  • WhatsApp might roll out dark mode for Android users before the Android Q announcement from Google
  • Dark mode on smartphones said to increase battery life
Dark mode is in the limelight in recent times. Every other app is getting the dark mode these days. In fact, it’s also rumored that Google’s next Android version possibly the Android Q will also bring the dark mode as a system update. Reportedly dark mode will be one of the key highlights of the next Android version aka Android Q. Reports have been making rounds that dark mode is coming to WhatsApp too. The rumor is now getting somewhat legit. Concept images of WhatsApp running on dark mode have been leaked on the internet. The picture has been posted by WABetaInfo which usually reports about all upcoming WhatsApp features on Android, iOS, and Windows. The report suggests that the Facebook-owned messaging platform is already working in bringing the dark mode feature to everyone very soon.
Dark Mode Coming to WhatsApp
As the name suggests, the dark mode basically turns the background on the screen black which basically will help the users use WhatsApp to message friend or family member inside a dark room. The phone screen will no longer hurt the eyes. The new report suggests that the dark mode will be coming to all WhatsApp users very soon.
Going by the concept pictures, the background screen is dark, but the text like the name of a contact or the message appears in white for it to be visible to the user. Besides being soothing to the eyes report suggests that the WhatsApp dark mode will save a major amount of battery mainly for phones that come with an OLED display. Reportedly the feature will come to iOS as well as Android. Like all WhatsApp features the Dark Mode might come to iOS users first then followed by Android.
WhatsApp Forward Option Limited to Five Chats Globally
WhatsApp has recently taken a step ahead to stop the spread of fake news in India. WhatsApp has limited the forward chat option to just five users at a go, with this measure WhatsApp believe will be able to combat the spread of fake news in the country which recently led to incidents of lynching. A couple of days ago, WhatsApp has rolled out the same feature globally. It seems like the forward limiting reduced the impact of spam to an extent.
“Starting today, WhatsApp will be implementing this change, globally, i.e. all users on the latest versions of WhatsApp can now forward to only five chats at once. This will continue to help keep WhatsApp focused on private messaging with close contacts,” noted WhatsApp in a press release.
The Facebook-owned messaging platform also noted, “WhatsApp carefully evaluated this test and listened to user feedback over six months. The forward limit significantly reduced forwarded messages around the world. Starting today, all users on the latest versions of WhatsApp can now forward to only five chats at once, which will help keep WhatsApp focused on private messaging with close contacts. We’ll continue to listen to user feedback about their experience, and over time, look for new ways of addressing viral content.”
