- Previously the service was slated to be launched by March 2019
- Reliance Jio will cover 1,100 Indian cities in its GigaFiber rollout
Reliance Jio has teased the Indian citizens about the launch of its new services in 2019. The Mukesh Ambani led telecom operator is expected to launch its Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) service nationwide to 1,100 cities this year. Along with it, the telecom operator will also bring its DTH service for the subscribers which is the Reliance Jio GigaTV. These two new segments for Reliance Jio will seek to provide high-speed broadband and DTH connectivity at cheaper rates. Just like it did with the launch of Reliance Jio, back in 2016, the telecom operator is looking forward to disrupting the industry again with its new services.
Reliance Jio GigaFiber Launch Possibly Delayed
It is worth noting that the Reliance Jio GigaFiber is already live in some metro cities of India like Mumbai and Delhi and a handful of people are already enjoying the services. People in these cities have been enjoying the high-speed GigaFiber services since the last six to seven months post the pilot testing in these regions. For the rest of the country, however, Reliance Jio had run into a problem of last mile connectivity. Keeping those things in mind, the commercial launch for Reliance Jio’s latest services was set in March but looking at the snail pace development in Reliance Jio’s GigaFiber project it is safe to say that the commercial launch of the service is expected to be delayed.
Area-Ready-for-Sale Run by Reliance Jio
Still, the question remains, what exactly is Reliance Jio up to in the period until the people wait for the launch of this service. To answer that question and to cater to the curiosity of the people, India Today found out that Reliance Jio is currently doing an “Area Ready for Sale” (RFS) rollout for its GigaFiber services. The RFS project for Reliance Jio means that the representatives of the company are reaching out to the authorities in the high rises and private homes to ask them for permission of deployment. As part of this process, Reliance Jio is reaching out to both Multiple Dwelling Units (MDUs) and Single Dwelling Units (SDUs).
Reliance Jio has essentially growth-hacked its way into the industry thanks to its ultra-low tariffs. Just like the company had done for its 4G SIM, the telecom operator is also giving free Jio GigaFiber service in selected locations where it is finding it convenient to deploy the service. As part of its initial offer, Reliance Jio is offering 1100GB of data per month to the subscribers at 100Mbps speed for three months. The subscribers will enjoy this service for three months straight, and they won’t have to pay for anything. However, the only charge they will have to pay will be the Rs 4,500 towards security deposit which will be refundable while the subscriber disconnects and deactivates his account.
