Airtel started VoLTE service in roaming like Vodafone VoLTE
HIGHLIGHTS
- Airtel is offering VoLTE service from September 2017
- Airtel VoLTE now supports 227 devices in popular brands
Bharti Airtel is now offering VoLTE service for almost two years, but Telco has so far restricted the use of the service for the Home Circle. But recently with the upgrade of the network, Airtel has started providing VoLTE service in national roaming; In simple words, the Airtel VoLTE enabled users can now experience HD voice calls even during roaming. For example, if you are an Airtel customer with VoLTE enabled handsets in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Circle, you can now use the technology to make fast voice calls in Delhi Telecom circle too. Overall, we have 22 telecom circles in India and Airtel VoLTE has presence in 21 Circles with J & K. Vodafone Idea also has its VoLTE service, which is working on national roaming since launch.
Airtel VoLTE now works in national roaming: What does this mean?
In September 2017, the Airtel VoLTE service was introduced to take Jio VoLTE. Immediately after the launch of Airtel VoLTE, Telkko, led by Sunil Mittal, removed the FUP limitation on voice calling, a step that would re-match Jio. When the service was started, it was limited to some circles, but in the last 18 months, Airtel has expanded this service to 21 telecom circles. Except for Jammu and Kashmir, Airtel VoLTE coverage is now available in all 21 telecom segments.
Even though Airtel launched the service in major areas, many customers were not able to use it despite their handset support. However, this issue has now been fixed and every Airtel customer with a supported handset can use Airtel VoLTE to enjoy the HD voice call. And the service is completely free.
Coming in the national roaming section, imagine that if you are travelling from your home circle to another telecom circle, then immediately after entering the second circle, Airtel VoLTE would disappear. As mentioned, Airtel has fixed this issue and its VoLTE service can now be used in national roaming.
Airtel VoLTE support up to 227 devices
Almost all the smartphones released today are coming with Airtel VoLTE support. For example, the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S10 +, Galaxy S10, S10e, Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi Note 7 support all outlets of Airtel VoLTE. In addition to the devices described above, Airtel VoLTE is officially supported on 227 devices with smartphones of popular brands such as Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Asus and so on.
Every smartphone with VoLTE features supports Jio VoLTE, but not with Airtel and Vodafone Idea because they want to manually add their VoLTE patches to the phone's firmware. Last year, Airtel and Vodafone Idea added VoLTE support after the launch of the phone, but it seems that this year is not the same. As stated, the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Radmi Note 7 come out of the box by default with Airtel VoLTE.
